was joined on that stage today by michele bachmann, rand paul, steve king, tony perkins, a celebration of right-wing views out of the mainstream. anti-women, anti-immigrant, anti-gay. while paul ryan tried to under his views today, governor romney in the swing state of virginia, removing to restrict a woman's right to choose. the state up held regulations that could force many women's health clinics to shut their doors. these are the real values he stands for. just because he didn't say it doesn't mean he doesn't believe it. watch what they do, not just what they say. joining me now is frank schafer, columnist for "the huffington post" and author of crazy for god and washington correspondent for "the guardian." thanks for joining me. >> thank you. >> anna marie, let me start with you. paul ryan is hiding his views, it seems. you know, he didn't go into a lot of detail today but clearly being at this conference stating the views of his, let's say, the crowd of speakers that were with him, and what he's advocated before clearly is a very open confirmation of some of the most conservative

seats in the house are being challenged. michele bachmann swept into office in 2010 with a 13-point lead. now she's only two points ahead of her opponent. allen west, nine-point lead in 2010 has turned into a statistical dead heat in 2012. congressman steve king held an impressive 33% lead in 2010, is now down to single digits. is this a rejection of their ideas and could lead to the country moving away from this extreme right philosophy in terms of a takeover by politics in washington? >> yes, if as president obama said, because he was right when he said that real power is not here in washington, you don't change washington from the inside, it does mean that people from the outside, it's not just about who gets elected. that's very important. and then people outside of washington have to keep the pressure on their members of congress to hold them accountable for what they said they were going to do. when we've seen people do that over the course of the last couple of years, that's the only time we've actually ever seen congress act that or coming to a fiscal cliff and over a deadline. y

michele bachmann and jim dement, ryan fired up the crowd when he took aim at the health care law mandate requiring insurers provide free family planning coverage including birth control. >> this is into the threat and insult to one religious group. it is a threat and insult to every religious group. when mitt romney is elected, we will get to work on day one to reappeal that mandate and all of p obamacare. >> i'm joined now by deputy political editor who was at that summit earlier. good afternoon to you. paul ryan helped to fire up the base no doubt. how does that kind of rhetoric play to the 1 million or so undecided voters most of whom we know are not socially conservative? >> we know the health care mandate is not very popular even with independents. but most people have also indicated that they want to move on after the supreme court ruling. and i'm not sure how much weight this really carries considering that mitt romney also strongly supported a mandate as part of his health care reform plan in massachusetts. >> they certainly were not in com any's corner during the primaries. what
